Community Service
As part of its mission, the UCAB School of Psychology promotes learning and research in psychology as a means of serving diverse contexts and human groups—particularly those that are socially disadvantaged. This commitment to action and reflection, both in and for the community, is grounded in the educational principles and values of UCAB and AUSJAL (Association of Jesuit Universities in Latin America).
Objective
Community-Based Psychology aims to actively, systematically, directly, and responsibly contribute—through psychological knowledge, strategies, and professional practice—to the development of communities facing sociocultural disadvantage.
Within this framework, actions are organized around three key components: psychoeducational initiatives or approach, individual and community-focused support, and the engagement of participating students.

Psychoeducational Approach
Refers to the guidance and intervention in psychoeducational processes that support the cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual development of learners—as well as teachers, parents, and guardians—within educational institutions serving underprivileged communities.

Individual and Community Support
Focuses on fostering individual and group spaces for reflection on personal and social issues related to holistic, family, and community health.

Participating Student
Involves providing comprehensive training—intellectual, volitional, and spiritual (a contemplative dimension that encourages care for creation and dialogue with others)—aimed at developing strong professional, ethical, and experiential capacities for university service, in direct engagement with individuals and communities experiencing social disadvantage.
