Our history
From its creation in October 1957 until 1965, the Psychology degree was taught at Jesuits Corner, the former headquarters of the university; It had a duration of 4 years and was shared with the School of Education. Starting the following year, it was approved that the degree would have a duration of 5 years, a modification that lasted until 1972 with the first major reform of the study plan; It consisted of the incorporation of practices, seminars and field work to enrich the training.
In 2003 the UCAB was invited to participate in the Tuning-Latin America Project, in which the proposal of a competency-based and student-centered education, the recognition of “Latin American countries and construction” was reflected and considered. to establish exchanges on higher education.
In 2006, the discussion began to reform the Psychology major’s curriculum. It was led by the outgoing director, Professor Zuleima Santalla, and the current one at that time, Professor Ana Gabriela Pérez, as well as other students, graduates and students. On this reform day, the regime was modified from annual to semi-annual, content-based education and competency-based. In addition, internships as a psychologist have increased in the last two years.
Since then, the system of credit units suggested by the European Union was adopted, which allows better equivalences to be established between European and national study programs. Since 2007, the School of Psychology has benefited from important curricular changes. The evolution of these studies has led to the achievements such as competency-based education, the semester regime, the internationalization and formalization of agreements with other universities, strengthening research and extension activities.
